Mobile devices play a significant role in society, in general, and a very limited one at the different levels of education. Smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices allows learning to occur anywhere, (and at) anytime. These powerful technological devices can enhance the teaching and learning processes by helping to promote collaborative and individual learning and broadening the boundaries of the classroom to different contexts of learning. Many students have mobile devices and their applications can provide access to learning outside the classroom, for greater flexibility and more dynamic learning. In this sense, the articulation of technological and methodological efforts allowed us to create learning scenarios supported by the devices that students take to the classroom (BYOD), and use them to motivate and involve students in meaningful learning. These devices offer the advantage of integrating various technologies in the curricular contents, such as in foreign and mother language courses, representing a set of possibilities of ubiquity that can have great impact on the learning process. Thus, we developed strategies with vocational and educational students’ methodologies, such as augmented reality, project-based learning, game-based learning, collaborative learning and gamification. In this text, we present the results of two mobile learning studies in teaching French as a foreign language (to 18-23 year-old-students) and Portuguese language, as a mother tongue (to 15-19 year-old-students), in vocational education, implemented as a mediation tool in education to promote the construction of learning and development of significant skills of collaborative work. From the data collection, through a questionnaire, with open and closed questions, we highlight the favorable perception of the students to the integration of mobile devices in learning, and the recognition of the benefits of the teaching strategies used throughout the year, in the increase of curricular learning.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Image Normalization of Wiener-Hopf operators and boundary-transmission value problems for a junction of two half-planes

    Get PDF
The present paper deals with an application of the image normalization technique for certain classes of Wiener-Hopf operators (WHOs) associated to ill-posed boundary-transmission value problems. We briefly describe the method of normalization and then apply it to boundary-transmission value problems issued from diffraction problems for a junction of two half-planes, which are relevant in mathematical physics applications. We consider different boundary-transmission conditions on the junction of the two semi-infinite half-planes and analyze the not normally solvability of the corresponding operators.Comment: 15 page

A Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm for the Vehicle Routing with Time Windows and Loading Problem

    Get PDF
This work presents the Vehicle Routing with Time Windows and Loading Problem (VRTWLP) as a multi-objective optimization problem, implemented within a Genetic Algorithm. Specifically, the three dimensions of the problem to be optimized – the number of vehicles, the total travel distance and volume utilization – are considered to be separated dimensions of a multi-objective space. The quality of the solution obtained using this approach is evaluated and compared with results of other heuristic approaches previously developed by the author. The most significant contribution of this work is our interpretation of VRTWLP as a Multi-objective Optimization Problem

Representations of the free profinite object over DA

    Get PDF
In this paper, we extend to DA some techniques developed by Almeida and Weil, and Almeida and Zeitoun for the pseudovariety R to obtain representations of the implicit operations on DA: by labeled trees of finite height, by quasi-ternary labeled trees, and by labeled linear orderings. We prove that two implicit operations are equal over DA if and only if they have the same representation, for any of the three representations. We end the paper by relating these representations.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Generalizingapropertyofthepseudovarietyofallaperiodicsemi- groups observed by Tilson, we call E-local a pseudovariety V which satisfies the following property: for a finite semigroup, the subsemigroup generated by its idempotents belongs to V if and only if so do the subsemigroups generated by the idempotents in each of its regular D-classes. In this paper, we present sev- eral sufficient or necessary conditions for a pseudovariety to be E-local or for a pseudoidentity to define an E-local pseudovariety. We also determine several examples of the smallest E-local pseudovariety containing a given pseudovariety.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Get PDF
Background: More and more, cardiac rehabilitation has a premature start in treatment and in the patient's needs, in order to promote his autonomy and commitment for the recovery, through a multidisciplinary approach. The home-based programmes and the inclusion of the information and communication technologies are attractive solutions for the increase of the participation of the selected patients, and for the inclusion of patients groups currently under-represented. Aim(s): Systematize the current scientific evidence about the cardiac rehabilitation home-based remotely controlled programme’s effectiveness, through the application of new technologies, comparing it to centre-based/hospital-based rehabilitation, in terms of adhesion and physical activity. Methods: This work consists on a systematic revision of literature published between 2007 and 2014, through a research in different scientific electronic databases (Elsevier - Science Direct, PEDro, PubMed, Scielo Portugal and B-on) with the key words: "cardiac rehabilitation", "home-based", "centre-based", "hospital-based", "exercise-based rehabilitation", "telemonitoring", "smartphone", "internet" and "physical activity", in every possible combination. The studies were analyzed independently by two revisers, taking into account the inclusion criteria and the quality of the studies. Results: Only 10 of the 101 identified studies were included. Considering the PEDro scale, 4 studies got a score of 5, four a score of 6 and 2 a score of 7 in 10. The studies were conducted in adults aged between 18 and 80 years. The intervention programmes were divided into planning of physical activity and self-management. All the physical activity programmes led to a raise of exercise capacity and consequently, to a higher control of the risk factors. Based on the PRC home-based adhesion levels and on the positive results from different parameters regarding centre-based/hospital-based rehabilitation, it is remarkable the effectiveness of home-based telemonitoring. Conclusion: Home-based telemonitoring constitutes a key element for the solution of numerous problems of these patients, becoming simple and easy operating methods to achieve success in adhesion rates. With effect, the use of the information and communication technologies allows an effective performance and management of healthcare at home
